Temperature-controlled change of charge transport mechanisms in nonionic water-in-oil microemulsions

 The temperature-controlled transition from the Stokes charge transport of aqueous nanodroplets to the intrinsic conduction of nanodroplet clusters in nonionic microemulsions was studied. Two different charge transport processes apparent from a minimum value of the conductance have been simulated based on straightforward physical models. Determination of haptoglobin in human serum by high-performance gel-permeation chromatography

Summary A high-performance gel-permeation chromatographic (GPC) method is described for the determination of serum haptoglobin (Hp), based on the estimation of the haptoglobin-hemoglobin (Hp−Hb) complex. Hemoglobin (Hb) is added to the serum and the resulting Hp−Hb complex is separated by GPC and detected at 415 nm. The Hp−Hb complex separated chromatographically from serum migrated electrophoretically with the globulin fraction. It was found to be stable over a period of one week at 4°C. The total analysis time for a serum sample is approximately 20 min. The minimum detection limit is 30mg/L. Relative standard deviation values were below 1% (peak area). No interferences from bilirubin or from turbidity of samples were observed. The results of the GPC analysis correlate well with those obtained by nephelometric assay (r=0.996).

Coherent control of stimulated emission inside one dimensional photonic crystals: strong coupling regime

The present paper discusses the stimulated emission, in strong coupling regime, of an atom embedded inside a one dimensional (1D) Photonic Band Gap (PBG) cavity which is pumped by two counter-propagating laser beams. Quantum electrodynamics is applied to model the atom-field interaction, by considering the atom as a two level system, the e.m. field as a superposition of normal modes, the coupling in dipole approximation, and the equations of motion in Wigner-Weisskopf and rotating wave approximations. In addition, the Quasi Normal Mode (QNM) approach for an open cavity is adopted, interpreting the local density of states (LDOS) as the local density of probability to excite one QNM of the cavity; and therefore rendering this LDOS dependent on the phase difference of the two laser beams. In this paper we demonstrate that the strong coupling regime occurs at high values of the LDOS. In accordance with the results of the literature, the emission probability of the atom decays with an oscillatory behaviour, so that the atomic emission spectrum exhibits two peaks (Rabi splitting). The novelty of this work is that the phase difference of the two laser beams can produce a coherent control of both the oscillations for the atomic emission probability and, as a consequence, of the Rabi splitting in the emission spectrum. Possible criteria to design active delay lines are finally discussed.

A Generalization of the Hilbert Basis Theorem

A generalization of the Hilbert basis theorem in the geometric setting is proposed. It asserts that, for any well-describable (in a certain sense) family of polynomials, there exists a number C such that if P is an everywhere dense (in a certain sense) subfamily of this family, a is an arbitrary point, and the first C polynomials in any sequence from P vanish at the point a, then all polynomials from P vanish at a.     

GLOBAL EXISTENCE FOR SEMILINEAR RETARDED FUNCTIONAL DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS WITH INFINITE DELAY

This paper is concerned with the global existence of solutions for abstract retarded functional differential equations (RFDEs) with infinite delay,via a fixed point approach.Some sufficient conditions are established under which the existence of a globally mild solution are obtained by using Leray-Schauder.     

The effect of market segmentation with demand leakage between market segments on a firm’s price and inventory decisions

In this paper, we address the simultaneous determination of price and inventory replenishment in a newsvendor setting when the firm faces demand from two or more market segments in which the firm can set different prices. We allow for demand leakage from higher-priced segments to lower-priced segments and assume that unsatisfied demand can be backlogged. We examine the case where the demands occur concurrently without priority and are met from a single inventory. We consider customer’s buy-down behavior explicitly by modeling demand leakage as a function of segment price differentiation, and characterize the structure of optimal inventory and pricing policies.
